Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A really fantastic character study about an abusive relationship between a celebrity and a teenager who wants to break into his industry. This book provided a really realistic perspective about how someone is groomed into a relationship like that and how difficult it can be to leave once you're stuck.
I would definitely recommend people to check for trigger warnings prior to reading the book, especially if abusive relationships and sexual assault are touchy subjects. Personally it didn't feel too graphic - everything was portrayed very tastefully, with just enough detail to evoke the emotions of a scene without feeling exploitative - but that could also be because I have no personal history with those experiences. But if you can handle that, then I can't recommend this book enough for its sympathetic portrayal of a victim of the music industry.
[MINOR SPOILER]
Also props to this book for being able to pull off a satisfying ending that still felt realistic.
